Bilan de l'unité

This review covers all fourteen lessons. You read a newsletter, a novel excerpt, an interview, a suspense story, text messages and an email, a review, a poster, a science article, a formal letter, blogs, a poem and a comic, and you wrote your own version of almost every one.

Work through the questions lesson by lesson. Try each one before you open the answer. If a section feels hard, go back to that lesson, then take the quiz at the end.

How to use this review

  • Try every question before opening the answer, and keep score by lesson.
  • If you miss two or more in one lesson, reread that lesson's explanations and redo its Your turn section.
  • Make a one-page grammar sheet from the diagram at the top: one example sentence of your own for each topic.
  • Then take the quiz below without notes. Each quiz question matches a lesson (see the parent notes).
Just for fun

Après quatorze leçons, tu peux maintenant écrire : Il faut que je te le dise : quand tu auras lu ce texte en marchant, tu seras meilleur que moi ! That one sentence uses the subjunctive, a double pronoun, the futur antérieur, the gérondif and a comparative. Not bad for a Grade 9 student!

For parents and teachers

How to use the results: each quiz question matches a lesson. If your child misses:

  • Q1 (present tense): revisit Lesson 1, Bienvenue au secondaire !
  • Q2 (adjective forms and position): revisit Lesson 2, Le portrait.
  • Q3 (inversion): revisit Lesson 3, L'entrevue.
  • Q4 (choosing past tenses): revisit Lesson 4, Le récit à suspense; for adverbs and story structure, Lesson 5, Écrire un récit.
  • Q5 (two object pronouns): revisit Lesson 6, Textos et courriels.
  • Q6 (meilleur / mieux): revisit Lesson 7, La critique.
  • Q7 (future after quand / dès que): revisit Lesson 8, L'affiche.
  • Q8 (subjunctive): revisit Lesson 10, La lettre d'opinion.
  • Q9 (possessive pronouns): revisit Lesson 11, La francophonie dans le monde.
  • Q10 (homophones and typography): revisit Lesson 14, Le journal de l'école.

The quiz doesn't test Lessons 9, 12 and 13 directly; use their review sections above (demonstrative pronouns, the gérondif and fluency, comics and inference).

Reading mistakes (missing the main idea or details) usually mean your child is reading word by word. Encourage the Lesson 1 routine: preview, read for the gist, then scan for details, and use the glossary.

Writing: compare a piece from early in the unit with the published piece from Lesson 14 and celebrate what improved. Everything in this unit carries into Grade 10 Core French (FSF2D), where these tenses, pronouns and the subjunctive keep growing.
