In this unit you will find activities you truly enjoy, indoors and outdoors, and solve the barriers that get in the way of moving every day. You will design and lead your own warm-ups and cool-downs, learn the factors that affect fitness, apply the training principles, run fair fitness tests, and build a fitness plan that you track and revise. You will learn how to lower the risk of concussion for yourself and others, and how to anticipate and respond to outdoor hazards like lightning, heat, cold, water, ice and ticks.
Then you will move: linking balances with weight transfers and rotations, breaking skills into three phases and adjusting to wind and weather, reading and reacting to opponents with dodges, fakes and smart shot placement, learning the rules and skills of lifelong activities (including self-officiated ultimate and adapted sports), and comparing game categories to find tactics that transfer, especially fast transitions. Social-emotional skills are woven in throughout: managing emotions, coping with stress, perseverance, healthy relationships, a positive sense of self, and critical and creative thinking.
Every activity is designed for home, a yard or a park, with a warm-up and safety notes. You will need some open space, running shoes, soft balls, a flying disc, a beach ball, a skipping rope, a few markers (shoes or cones), a timer, a ruler or measuring tape, a notebook, and a grown-up or friend to play with.
