Nunavut Department of EducationNunavut
Nunavut's Department of Education sets the curriculum, built on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and four Curriculum Foundations: Uqausiliriniq (communication), Iqqaqqaukkaringniq (math, science and innovation), Nunavusiutit (heritage, history and environment) and Aulajaaqtut (wellness). A new made-in-Nunavut curriculum in Inuktut and English is replacing borrowed documents one grade a year: Kindergarten to Grade 3 use it in 2026-27, and it reaches Grade 12 in 2035-36. Until then, Grades 4-9 use approved Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba documents (Alberta for math and Grade 7-9 science), and high school uses Alberta courses alongside Nunavut's own Aulajaaqtut and Inuktut courses. Graduation requires 100 credits, including English 30-level language arts, math, science, social studies, Aulajaaqtut, physical education and fine arts, and students write Alberta diploma exams in 30-level courses.
